In order to complete your campaign flow, you first need to add a traffic source. This will be tied to your specific campaign and is where you will be getting your traffic from (where you ad is placed).
To add a new Traffic Source, go into the Traffic Source tab of your install and to Add New Source.
Adding A New Traffic Source
You will then either want to select from one of our 50+ pre-defined sources or you can create your own if you do not see yours on our list.
You will want to make sure you use a unique source name and abbreviation to make it easy to find when setting up your campaigns and when checking reports.
Placing a Postback or Pixel from Your Traffic Source
You have the option to place a postback or pixel from your traffic source if you want to pass back conversions to them.
If you wish to place this on the traffic source level, so that the postback or pixel fires for any campaign tied to this source, you can place the postback or pixel on the traffic source card.
Setting up the Postback:
First, select the pixel type in the dropdown on the right side of the card. In the example below, we have Postback but you could also choose from iframe, image, javascript, or other raw code.
You'll place your postback or pixel in the field under "Post-Back Pixel).
If you will be using postback, remember to place {externalid} in the parameter of the postback where you need the clickID passed to the traffic source. This is required. You'll then want to also fill in the External ID row below. The parameter can be anything you wish to label it as. The placeholder must be the token provided by your traffic source for the unique clickID. In the example below we have {CLICK_ID}, but please make sure you use the specific token given to you by the traffic source.
Adding in Custom Variables
You can also pass additional values through from your traffic source like the cost, or any number of custom variables. If you select one of our pre-defined traffic sources, we will populate these in the boxes here for you. Once your campaign is set up with this traffic source, these variables will be added to the end of your campaign URL.
For example, we selected Revcontent as our source and it will add in the target, boost id, content id, and widget id for you.
This will add these parameters and placeholders to our campaign link that is tied to this Revcontent traffic source. For example, our URL here will have this at the end:
&target={adv_targets}&boosid={boost_id}&contid={content_id}&widgid={widget_id}
If it's anything additional that you want to pass, you can certainly do so in the custom variables. For more information, please visit our support article on Custom Variables here.
