If you want to pass back custom variables from your traffic source into your Campaign link you can set these up under the Custom Variables area in the Traffic Source.
Go into your Traffic Source or add a New Traffic Source. If you select one of Thrive's 50+ pre-defined traffic sources, we already populate some of their variables for you. If there is another additional variable that you want to capture, you can use one of the Custom Variable rows for this.
Let's take a look at an example. Say we have a traffic source that can pass us the keyword information through the campaign URL. In order to do this, we would want to make sure we add the parameter and the placeholder values. The parameter can be anything you want, but the placeholder must come directly from the traffic source as this will be the token from their system that sends the actual value through.
In this example, {keyword} is the token from the traffic source. To go with it, we have created kwyrd for our parameter. We've added Keyword as the name, which is what will show up in your Thrive reports.
Once saved, your campaign URL would then have this added to the end:
&kwyrd={keyword}.
Let's go through 1 more example for good measure.
Our traffic source gives us the option to pass through the creative ID. Their token for Creative ID is {creativeid}. We need to now set up the traffic source with that token, a corresponding parameter, and name for our reports.
I've added in {creativeid} to the placeholder column since that is what came from the traffic source. Then, I've added in creatid for what I want the parameter named. The column name I want to see in reporting for this will be Creative ID.
My campaign link would then have this on the end:
&creatid={creativeid}
Want to also pass this through your landing page and/or Offer URLs?
There are 2 options on how to do this on the landing page and offer levels.
Let's use our creative ID example from above where we have the below information in our Custom Variable 1 of our traffic source:
Parameter = creatid
Placeholder = {creativeid}
- Under the landing page / offer section, you could use the {var1} token if you are using Custom Variable 1. (Use {var2} if using Custom Variable 2, etc).
So we would use our creatid= parameter with the {var1} token.
2. If you wanted a more visible token to show what you were capturing in the custom variable instead of just using {var1}, you could use the {var:param-name} token. You would just need to replace "param-name" with the actual name of your parameter.
In our case, {var:param-name} would become {var:creatid}.
